The municipality has 7.539 inhabitants and an area of 4.454 hectares for a population density of 169 inhabitants per square kilometer.

It is located in a flat area, 10 meters above the sea level.

The name derives from the Sicilian Pitrusinu (parsley), which in turn comes from the greek Petroselinum, and the Latin Petroselinum, with identical meaning.

It is a coastal town recently established, created out of the territories that belonged to Marsala and Mazara del Vallo.

The Portal Baglio Woodhouse

In 1632, the village went assuming the current configuration: the settlement was perfected thanks to the English John Woodhouse with the construction of a beam whose portal became the emblem of the country.

In the artistic field are: the Torre Sibiliana of the XIV century, the Tower Montenero the seventeenth century, Baglio Woodhouse, Baglio Spano of the XIX century and the Baglio Basile.
